Communication Setup
How you will keep in touch with your child and the Language Link team:
Install WhatsApp
It is how we talk to families and host families
Activate Roaming
Ask your provider to turn on roaming on your child's phone, or get a UK SIM
Save Emergency Numbers
The Language Link emergency number, the host family, and 999 for UK emergencies
Set Communication Schedule
Agree when you will talk (the UK is an hour behind Spain)
What to Expect
So your child goes prepared:
Initial Adjustment Period
It is normal for your child to feel homesick or a little lost in the first few days. It passes as they settle in.
Language Learning Curve
Their English will improve a lot, but not overnight. Every conversation counts.
Cultural Differences
Some things will be different from home. They are part of what your child is there to learn.
Building Relationships
Encourage your child to take time to get to know the host family. They want them to do well and have a great time.
